Essential skills for life and work

A basic understanding of English, maths and computer skills are essential for work and everyday life. If you would like to improve your knowledge, skills and confidence in these areas, we can help.

Not everyone grasps English, maths and computer skills at school. In fact, in many cases, computers weren't even invented when you left school! And yet nowadays a basic understanding of each these subjects is needed for everyday life including getting the most from your money when you're out shopping, filling in forms or applying for jobs or following recipes or measuring areas for DIY projects.

That's where we can help. You will find a range of courses that will take you back to the basics, or build upon your existing knowledge and existing skills. Better still, at the end of a course not only will you have improved your understanding of these basic skills, you'll get a recognised qualification too!

ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)

City College Peterborough has a very successful track record as an ESOL provider, the largest in Peterborough with over 85% of ESOL students joining a course following recommendations of family and friends.

You will find a range of courses for English for Speakers of Other Languages – to help you with your communication skills for work and in your daily life. Most of our courses lead to qualifications recognised in the UK and all over the world. You will need to come in for an assessment to find out what level your English is before you are placed on one of our courses.
