Course Overview

This level 2 Certificate course comprises of 6 units.Unit 1 will provide the learner with an understanding of what a learning disability is and the characteristics of a learning disability. Provide an awareness of the policies and legislation that support their human rights and provide an understanding of how to promote communication for individuals with a learning disability. Unit 2 covers safeguarding and abuse in all its forms. How to recognise the different forms of abuse. How to recognise and respond to any suspicions or allegations of abuse and how to reduce the likelihood of abuse for individuals with a learning disability. Unit 3 provides the learner with a basic understanding of personalisation in social care, the systems that support personalisation, how it impacts the support provided and how to implement personalisation. Unit 4 provides an awareness of positive risk taking, identifying relevant legislation and how to support individuals to make decisions around positive risk taking and managing the risks. Unit 5 provides a basic understanding of autistic spectrum conditions, areas of difficulty, understanding behaviours of individuals on the spectrum, person centred support for individuals and effective communication for individuals with autism. Unit 6 provides an awareness of the rights of individuals to access healthcare services, the function of the different services, have an awareness of the roles of the professionals in the different services how having regular health checks underpins long term health and wellbeing and understanding how issues when accessing healthcare services impacts the individual.
