Course Overview

This 6 week course is suitable for beginners with limited knowledge of quilting. However, you should have a basic knowledge of how to use a sewing machine and hand sewing. You will be taken through each part of the process of basic quilting techniques starting with a basic patchwork design. During the 6 weeks you will have created a small quilt recycling used or unwanted old T-Shirts or clothing you are loathed to part with. You will cover: How to create patchwork by hand and using a sewing machine, how to use a basic patchwork pattern, how to apply your patchwork design to the filler or batting and backing to create your quilt.

You will need

Provide your own recycled clothing, interfacing, filler or batting, backing fabric, matching cottons, and equipment e.g. sewing machine and sewing kit: scissors, marking pencils, pins/quilting clips etc. You will get to know other people with the same interest of quilting as yourself and be able to share your interests and ideas. Your tutor will give you guidance to develop your confidence, knowledge and skills through individual assistance throughout your chosen project.

What next?

When the course has finished you will have the option to progress onto the Dressmaking for Beginners or Dressmaking for Intermediates course where you can further your skills and knowledge of dressmaking.
