Course Overview

The aim of this course is to develop your knowledge and understanding of the principles of caring for people with dementia: You will cover: • What is meant by dementia and the different forms it can take. • What person-centred approaches means and how it relates to caring for those with dementia. • Some of the different factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia. • Equality, diversity, and inclusion in dementia care. • The use of medication using a person-centred approach. • Some of the behaviours that people with dementia may display. • The benefits of engaging in activities for someone with dementia. Learners will submit their workbooks via an online portfolio and these will be internally assessed by their tutor.

You will need

A good level of English will also be requried in order to effectively complete workbooks You must also be aged 19 or over on the 31st August at the start of the academic year to be eligible. This is a knowledge based qualification so it is not a requirement to be working within the Health and Care sector already
