Course Overview
Maths can be a daunting topic for children. However, as the National Numeracy (2019) states “mathematicians are made, not born”. Even though things may have changed since you were at school, it shouldn’t be a barrier for you to help your child with their maths homework.
During this free course, our tutor Angie, a former primary school teacher, will walk you through the current teaching methods that are used in primary schools to teach your child maths. You will:
• Be shown how your child is taught addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.
• See how these strategies become more complex as your child progresses.National Numeracy. (2019). The debate about a ‘maths gene’. Consulted from The debate about a ‘maths gene’ | National Numeracy.
All materials will be provided. If you would like to take notes, please feel free to bring pen and paper. This course is funded through the Multiply initiative from the UK government and the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority. Eligibility criteria apply and learners will be expected to evidence this by showing ID, proof of address and proof of income. We will not retain copies of these documents. To be eligible for this course, you may not have a maths level 2 qualification.
