Course Overview

The years 1700 to 1914 saw Britain emerge as the ‘First Industrial Nation’, become the Workshop of the World’ and then enter a period of relative decline as competitors industrialised in their turn... The origins of Britain’s industrialisation lie in the combination of economic, technological, social, demographic and political factors together with those individuals (known and unknown) who made it possible. This is their story.
